About Department

The Department of Agriculture was established in 2024 to make provisions for imparting education in Smart Agriculture, an amalgam of several relevant branches of science and technology. Agricultural programmes are among the courses that are gaining greater significance in the present era of globalization because of the necessity to boost agricultural production and profitability, conserve natural resources, protect the environment and face the challenges of climate change through innovative and safer high-value production, processing and trade systems.

Mission

• To produce high quality practically trained manpower in agricultural and horticultural sciences.
• To adopt, improve and promote agricultural and horticultural technologies for sustenance and income-oriented farming systems.
• To generate trained manpower for peri-urban and protected cultivation systems.
• To develop and demonstrate technology for income and employment generation in farming.

The Department is committed to developing the quality human resource, innovative technologies, and their dissemination so as to serve the farming community with dedication and zeal. Students are exposed to reputed specialized academic and research institutions, industries and real farming conditions. The University library has been enriched with a number of books, e-books, and learning resources. The pedagogy comprises of a judicious mix of conventional and modern tech-supported systems including LMS. Each student receives personal attention through PeopleSoft administered monitoring and mentorship programmes, under highly qualified and experienced faculty.

Presently, the Department offers B.Sc. Hons Agriculture.   Being a multidisciplinary programme, in addition to the core faculty, a number of specialized faculty members from other Departments and Schools of multi-faculty Sharda University Agra, take an active part in teaching in agricultural sciences. The main aim of these programmes is to train students to understand and improve agri-horticultural productivity, manage processes & products and improve their employability and entrepreneurial skills in various relevant sectors.
