Students Visited Abhaypura Village to Spread Awareness Mahakumbh

03 Jan 2025

As part of a community connect initiative organized under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Sharda University Agra, students from the university visited Abhaypura village with the dual objectives of raising awareness about Mahakumbh 2025 and understanding the challenges faced by rural communities, particularly in the farming sector. The initiative, led by Prof. (Dr.) R. Swaminathan, Dean (ASET), aimed to deepen the students' understanding of rural society while fostering problem-solving and innovative thinking.

The visit began at Narayana International School, where students attended an enlightening session on the importance of organic farming. This session emphasized sustainable agricultural practices, setting the stage for the days activities. Following the session, the students engaged directly with villagers and farmers to gain firsthand insights into their lives and struggles.

During these interactions, the students highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of Mahakumbh 2025, encouraging the villagers to actively participate in the grand event. The villagers, in turn, shared the challenges they face, especially in farming. Issues such as stray animals damaging crops, despite measures like fencing and electrical deterrents, were a major concern. Additionally, they spoke about the difficulties of irrigation caused by erratic electricity supply, which often necessitates manual watering of fields during cold winter nights.

The villagers also demonstrated traditional farming techniques and tools used for cultivating potatoes, wheat, and mustard. This hands-on exposure helped students appreciate the dedication and ingenuity required in rural agriculture.

A highlight of the visit was the warm hospitality of the villagers, who prepared a delicious organic, millet-based lunch. Students interacted with the women who prepared the meal, learning about their lives, experiences, and culinary practices. The blessings they received added a heartfelt and personal touch to the day.

The students expressed their gratitude to Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Sharda University; Prof. (Dr.) R. Swaminathan (Dean, ASET); Prof. Achal Tomar (HOD, CSE); Prof. Gopalji Varshneya; and Prof. Shivam Pratap Singh for facilitating this impactful initiative. They also thanked Mr. Pramod Kumar (Gram Pradhan, Abhaypura), Mr. Lalit Chaudhary (Alumnus, AEC Keetham), and the Director of Narayana International School for their guidance and support throughout the visit.

This enriching experience provided the students with invaluable insights into rural life, the importance of organic farming, and the significance of community engagement. The visit concluded with the students promising to return with innovative solutions to address the challenges shared by the villagers.
